How Psychotherapy Works

How Psychotherapy Works

Psychotherapy provides a confidential, non-judgemental and caring place to explore your anxieties and problems in a way that may not be possible with a friend or relative.

It can be a means of helping you face up to some painful aspects of your life. In the process it often brings change and discovery of some previously hidden truth about yourself. With this comes freedom to live more fully and with greater awareness and understanding.

It offers a therapeutic relationship which will support you in your decision making and in drawing upon your own inner resources.

Some difficulties do not have a convenient label. Perhaps you feel unable to cope, or that life is unbearable, or perhaps there may be a past experience that is holding you back from achieving your potential and needs exploring and talking through.

I will work cognitively and holistically, following your process to better connect with you so we can walk together on this part of your journey.

Psychotherapy may help you through a current crisis or with ongoing problems such as:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Bereavement and loss

  • Depression

  • Perinatal problems

  • Post natal depression

  • Low self-esteem

  • Life changes; finding a new focus/direction

  • Disability, illness, or accident

  • Sexual, physical, emotional abuse

  • Personal identity

  • Spirituality

  • Developing creativity
